Why Union Construction
T
raining

Training is the lifeblood of our industry.  The workforce of the Construction Labor Management Council is a highly skilled and diverse workforce.  Contractors of the Construction Labor Management Council value their employees as assets and partners in business allowing them to build a superior product on time and on budget to the satisfaction of the construction user.  Our workers are provided with state of the art training programs continually monitored and updated to meet the changes and challenges of current and future technologies in the construction industry.  Millions of dollars are invested each year through our apprenticeship and training funds to benefit contractors, workers, construction users, the public, and our communities.

Much of our training is accomplished through apprenticeship programs in each area of expertise of the construction trades.  Our apprenticeship programs are administered by the state of Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development - Bureau of Apprenticeship Standards.  Joint apprenticeship committees made up of employer and employee experts in each specific trade area meet on a regular basis to monitor the “earn as you learn” programs.  These programs are three to five years in length and include on the job training as well as day and night time classroom instruction.  Apprentices earn wages and benefits on a graduated scale throughout their apprenticeship until attaining journey level status.  Upgrade training is encouraged to allow journey level workers to sharpen their skills in specialized areas and to keep up with changes in the industry.

The goals of all of our apprenticeship programs are to meet the needs of the industry with a highly qualified, safety conscious, well rounded, diverse workforce in sufficient numbers to perform at a high level for years to come.  In addition to apprenticeship training our contractor organizations offer a variety of education and training opportunities for advancement into careers in engineering, architecture and project management as well as leadership advancement.

Apprenticeship training and our other training programs offer lifetime career opportunities to people willing to work hard for a rewarding career in the unionized construction industry.  Listed below are links to career opportunities into the many diverse apprenticeship training programs offered by our building and construction trade industry.
