Diversity Initiative
Diversity in the construction trades is almost exclusive to the unionized sector of the industry here in Wisconsin. 91% of the women in construction apprenticeships and 89% of minorities in construction apprenticeships in Wisconsin are enrolled in union apprenticeship programs. This has been the case year in and year out according to statistics compiled by the State of Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development.
These statistics are not surprising. CLMC’s commitment to advocating for a diverse and highly qualified workforce has paid off as the record shows. Contractors of the Construction Labor Management Council in partnership with affiliated local labor organizations are committed to the recruitment of women and minorities into our ranks. We are proud of our diversity initiatives. Diversity is just good business.
CLMC is a partner in the Construction Workforce Diversity Alliance of South Central Wisconsin, an initiative dedicated to increasing and improving access, recruitment, training and retention for women and minorities in construction trade careers. CLMC contractors and our apprenticeship programs partner with organizations such as Tools for Tomorrow: Women in Trades & Technology Madison Area Technical College, START – Skilled Trades Apprenticeship Readiness Training Program, and YWCA of Madison TPST – Training Partnership for the Skilled Trades Program, all successful organizations creating a diverse workforce in the construction trades.
